Small Talk

click me to jump to the Roy Orbison mini-shows

Our friend Ronnie Allen was born many thousand oldies ago. He worked for Casey Kasem as the East Coast researcher for "American Top Forty" from 1972 through 1987 and has interviewed hundreds of recording artists. In the past few years he has been heard on the Internet doing full-length interview shows with many top musical performers from the 50s and 60s.

The stories behind some of the biggest hits of our generation are fascinating and interesting.

Ronnie invites you to take a trip with us down memory lane as he talks with some of the artists that we have worked with or whose music we love and admire.

Enjoy!

Comments from Ronnie regarding the Roy Orbison mini-shows .....

Back in 1975, while working for Casey Kasem and American Top Forty, I did a private phone interview with Roy Orbison.

Roy gave me permission to allow Casey to use the actual interview on his show if he chose to do so and also gave me permission to share it publicly with others should I choose to do so.

The complete interview was one hour and 15 minutes in length.

Now, for the first time ever, you can hear portions of our private phone conversation, along with portions of each of the recordings that we mention during our discussion.

The first mini-show starts with Roy attending college and ends with him having his first smash hit on Monument Records with "Only The Lonely."

The second mini-show starts with "Blue Angel" (the folllow-up to "Only The Lonely") and ends with "Oh Pretty Woman."

If you wish to comment on these special Small Talk mini-shows, please email me at RonnieOldiesGuy@aol.com.

I find it hard to believe that I did this interview 33 years ago, long before the Internet came into play.

Roy was a wonderful recording artist and spending 75 one-on-one moments with him discussing his life and his incredible career was a joyful experience.

If any of you wish to download this interview and share it with others, that's fine with me, but please mention that it is courtesy of this website, Jersey Girls Sing!

Finally, I wish to say thank you to my friend Shannon Lynn who transferred my original interview from tape to CD, making it possible for me to create what you can now listen to here.
