Taking Oldies To A New Dimension!

The New Dimensions are an oldies trio from Monroe Township, New Jersey consisting of (from left to right above) Linda Bridge, Marilyn Block and Kristal Ali. Each member does both lead singing and background harmony. These three Jersey girls have been popular on the New Jersey and Delaware Valley oldies scene for quite some time. Having formerly appeared as members of the Del Angels they have opened for greats including Arlene Smith of the Chantels, the Tymes, the Dubs, John Kuse and the Excellents and Kenny Vance and the Planotones.

In their performances, the New Dimensions pay tribute to pop music's most beloved groups and singers, including Aretha Franklin, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Arlene Smith and the Chantels, the Cookies, Dusty Springfield, the Supremes, Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, the Pointer Sisters, Gloria Gaynor, Linda Ronstadt, Chaka Kahn and so many more.

The key to their success is their diversity of musical backgrounds: Linda's include rock and roll and barbership; Marilyn's include a capella and barbershop; Kristal's include gospel and musical theater. This diversity brings an exiciting dynamic to their performance and allows them to do many different types of songs. With such variety, it's like there are several different groups on stage.

Marilyn says: "We’ll sometimes pass the lead from one to another in a song. It is a way we all get to sing our favorite harmonies and it brings (no pun intended) a new dimension to the music that we think is pleasing to the audience."

She adds:

"We're always amazed when doing a show to see 'kids' in their teens along with 20 and 30 year olds singing along with us. They know every word and every swipe in the music. They're experiencing the songs that we grew up with and having as much fun hearing and dancing to them as we did. The ballads bring to the dance floor couples who are, perhaps, remembering the first dance they had together and they’ll come up afterwards and tell us we’ve just been playing "their song". The music of this era tells a positive story to stay true to yourself, stand strong and be wise. In these times those are good ideals to live by and to reinforce”

On Friday February 8 starting at 8 PM Eastern Time, the New Dimensions were scheduled to do a live in-studio performance on Stu Weiss's world-famous Pop Shoppe Show, heard exclusively on the Oldies Your Way Internet radio station. Because of the major snow storm affecting the East Coast, that has been postponed to Friday February 15 at the same time.
